Twelve years ago, I had the privilege of helping Mr. Michigami recruit for the ramen restaurant he ran at the time.
After graduating from culinary school, he trained at a well-established sushi restaurant, opened a ramen and Italian restaurant, and then opened his own sushi restaurant, 《Creative Sushi Restaurant Hikari》, in Osaka’s Minato Ward.
I went to his restaurant yesterday to have lunch. He said, “Welcome! ”He greeted me with a baritone voice and I sat down at the counter. For lunch this time, I ordered the SASHIMI set meal. In fact, I had ordered the delivery sushi from his restaurant during the COVID-19 most popular period. The sushi was so impressive (especially the sea urchin and salmon) that I was determined to have the sashimi this time around. The sashimi was very fresh and thick, and as we ate it, I listened to the stories of the hardships he had gone through in the early days of meeting Mr. Michigami.
He seems to have made up his mind at the Port of Osaka, where his restaurant is located. My eyes were drawn to a painting displayed in front of his shop. It was Mr. Michigami’s painting of “Osaka Port of the Future”. When I saw this painting, I thought, “If we look forward, always smile, and enjoy the present, our future will be better for sure”.
I often ask myself these days. ‘Why do I enjoy eating out alone?’ .
Maybe it’s not just to enjoy the good food and the space, but also to meet the “people” who serve the food.
